 POINTE SHOE FITTING

Before You Visit......

THINGS to note

PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE FOR A POINTE SHOE FITTING IF YOU ARE IN ANY WAY SLIGHTLY UNWELL.

No charge for fitting consultation if Pointe Shoes are purchased.

1)Arrive with clean WARM feet with correctly cut toe-nails.

They should be trimmed or filed straight across with little

over-hang of nail and not cut rounded into the corners of

the nail bed to avoid

in-growing toe nails and

bruised nails, so please ask

for advice if you

are unsure.

2)Cover any Verrucas or Blisters with a secure sticky plaster.

Avoid fittings at a time you have sore feet, wait until they have healed !

3)Take into account if you intend to wear any toe cushions or other foot protection, that you know

you may like to use. If you already have some, bring them with you for your fitting.

4)Please wear footless tights or convertibles, so that we can see the bare foot, ankle and lower leg.

Wear suitable clothing that

allows a good view of the whole leg if possible. No Jeans please.

5)Bring your last pair of Pointe Shoes and any toe protection that you like to use, with you.

There are no two feet the same. There are different shapes, widths and sizes with different joint mobility and varying lengths of toes. For this reason there are a great many different shapes, weights and strengths of

Pointe Shoes. Finding a shoe that fits well is only part of the puzzle. Looking to see how the foot moves in the shoe to facilitate correct movement and finding optimum position en pointe is just as important. You can have a lovely fitting shoe on the flat, but that then works against you pushing you backwards off pointe.

In an ideal world we would have x-ray vision to see the foot and toes inside the shoe.

Please bare in mind that with very many different manufacturers shoes on hand, trying pointe shoes takes time to find the best option, but sometimes

it may be necessary to order particular shoes and will require you to return for a further fitting.

First time fittings are usually more complex and although a very exciting moment for the young student, ( I still remember my first fitting!) but it can also be a very daunting and a bewildering new experience.

I alllow an hour for fist time fittings. Please remember that I may have other appointments immediately after you, so time-keeping is very important.
